    Job Description
    This position will procure the highest quality dessert and pastry products and prepare them for sale within established profitable budgeted margins for daily and special event clients. The ideal Pastry Chef will instill high customer service levels and be highly responsive to customer requests, internal and external. 

    Job Class: Full Time
    Hiring Range: $27-28/hour
    Direct Reports: This position has no supervisory responsibilities or direct reports.

    Essential Duties

    • Ensures the culinary success and execution of daily needs/banquet and catering functions. Reviews and ensures the use of accurate updated Banquet Event Orders.
    • Provides creative conception and implementation of pastry items as assigned, ensuring all work complies with operating margin goals and meets menu development criteria. Ensures all items sold fit within targeted department margins.
    • Ensures the complete use of recipes, accurate portioning and production sheets for all items produced. Tracks and controls waste to be no more than 3% of total goods purchased.
    • Ensures food meets DMNS quality standards & provides consistent presentation following established standards.
    • Ensures inventory and orders are accurate & placed to accommodate business levels using appropriate order guides for vendors and established PO procedures, completed with proper signing authority.
    • Ensures a clean and sanitary environment for all areas of food service while ensuring compliance with Health Department regulations.

    Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • 5 years’ previous high volume dessert catering and restaurant production including custom desserts and wedding cakes.
    • Current Serve Safe Certification required or the ability to receive within on month from hire. 

    Ideal Candidate Will Be/Have

    • Able to design artistic, thematically inspired desserts and custom wedding cakes that align with various aesthetics or historical themes.  The Museum often host diverse events, exhibits, and clientele. 
    • Experience managing production schedules, multitasking, and delivering high-quality work under pressure. Flexibility in fluctuating demand (e.g. daily visitors vs. private events), multiple simultaneous orders, and tight timelines for weddings or special exhibits.
    • Personable, listens well, and can translate vague ideas into beautifully executed desserts. Custom desserts require close collaboration with external clients, event planners, and other internal departments.
